4 Dazzling Avocado Toast Recipes - No. 3 is a Must! (1)

We know there has been and still is an ongoing Avocado Toast craze. And rightfully so! Not that it wasn’t possible to mix various ingredients on a slice of bread beforehand, but it’s definitely much more fun with an avocado in it.

How to Make the Best Avocado Toast

No matter which avocado toast toppings you choose, getting the base of beautifully crispy toast and creamy avocado is essential. Here’s our top tips:

Pick the perfect avocado

Purchasing the perfect avocado is an art form. An under ripe avocado won’t mash well for your toast and an over ripe one is just plain unpleasant.

We recommend checking out this article on how to pick and buy an avocado. After reading this article people you may well become known as the avocado whisperer.

Store it properly

Our avocado toast recipes call for half an avocado per serving, so whilst you wait to eat this delicious dish again you will want to store the other half in the fridge.

Once cut, avocados tend to start turning brown due to oxidation. The key to preventing this as much as possible is to sprinkle your cut avocado with lemon juice or olive oil, wrap it tightly in cling film, and pop it in the fridge.

This article has plenty more tips on how to save that precious avocado half to enjoy later.

Season well

The key to tasty avocado toast every time? Seasoning! Even just adding salt and pepper to taste will make a huge difference, but in many of our topping variations we also like to add a splash of lemon juice.

Herbs like cilantro or parsley work beautifully with avocado, or if you like a spicy kick then toss in some chilli flakes.

Use great bread

A good quality bread that’s sturdy enough to hold your avocado and toasts beautifully will give you the perfect base. Think fresh sourdough or whole grain cut into thick slices and toasted until golden brown, yum!

Is Avocado Toast Healthy?

Provided you stick to healthy toppings and eat it in moderation, avocado toast can be an incredibly nutritious and filling dish loaded with good fats and vitamins.

Avocados are known for being high in heart healthy monounsaturated fats which also keep you full for hours. They come packed with fiber and a wide array of vitamins and minerals including vitamin C, vitamin K, and folate. If that’s not enough, avocados also contain more potassium than a banana!

Ready to join the avocado toast craze? Here’s our top tips for making the healthiest version:

Don’t go overboard on the avocado itself

It is possible to have too much of a good thing! Whilst avocado is packed with great nutrients, it is still high in fat and calories compared to other fruits and vegetables. For this reason it’s best to stick to half a medium avocado per toast as our recipes suggest, especially if you are trying to lose weight.

Keep toppings nutritious

Sliced vegetables, fruits and eggs are the perfect toppings to compliment avocado toast and keep it healthy.

Adding vegetables will give you an extra vitamin kick whilst keeping calories and fats down, whilst eggs will add more protein to the dish.

Stick to wholesome breads

If you want to keep to the healthiest version of avocado toast possible, ditch the processed white bread and stick to wholemeal, rye or flax bread.

Healthline has an article on the healthiest types of bread, why not test them out to create the ultimate avocado toast base!

Anyway, you probably have your avocado already on the cutting board, anxious for the moment leading up to opening it. Fingers crossed it’s just right and ready to be used for the toast ideas below.
