I think it will be a good idea for Outer Banks homes to have CB Base Stations! This way can make friends with other vacationers and residences. During the early night fall turn on the CB Base Station and talk away to other local people. Up and down the Outer Banks. Each beach area home can have a call handle. |

Bob, didn't you have that idea before? Like in the 1970's, right before the movie Convoy? Citizen Band Radios were also predominate back when you gave Burt Reynolds the idea for his Smokey and the Bandit movie. |

Back in BC (Before Cells) we used CB all the time to contact other fishermen. Some tackle shops had base stations. Fishin' Hole in Salvo was on Ch 23, as in Ramp 23. But cells took over because of the limited range of the CB. Mine was tuned by a truck stop CB shack and I could fairly easily talk from North side of Oregon Inlet to about ramp 27 if I pointed the antenna pattern down the beach. I still have a tuned one but it's only used in traveling, primarily the interstates and tunnels around Hampton Roads. |

I remember watching the crew building a house next to my uncles place in Hatteras Village take off from the job and head out to the surf when the CB at Frisco Pier started reporting bulls on the beach in the fall of 1976. |

Can we make CB Radio Base Stations come back to life for the Outer Banks area? After I get my Duck Home this winter. I would buy CB Base Station and Antenna. Ebay.com is the best place to buy. |

You're about 40 years behind the times. What you need to do is start a Group on Facebook called Bob Blocus' Big Bad Banks Blog and invite us to join and swap posts and stay up late telling manly stories, and in the morning, I'm making waffles! |

My Dad would give Ray Couch, who ran the Red Drum Tackle Shop back then, a call from the top of the Bonner Bridge when we were on the way down to Buxton to get a fishing report. He'd fade out as we descended onto Pea Island, and we'd give him another call as we passed thru Avon. When he built a cottage in Avon in 76, we had a CB base station. Talked to all the guys fishing on the beach on ch 13. No cable TV, no phone.... |

Doesn't make sense to me. When I go out on the deck at night to watch the stars and listen to the night sounds, all I see is the flicker of TV sets in the surrounding cottages. I live here so I need internet, but I've never connected the TV. Occasionally watch a movie on Netflix. If you're going to mess with Xbox or play pool, why not stay home? I guess I'm an old curmudgeon. |

Yep Rob, I see it in the mcmansions next to my 2 story double wide. They hang out at the pool all day, order pizza from Lisa's or Leonardo's, occasionally grill out and play in the game room all evening. Seldom do I see them actually get sand in their flip flops. Oh and they do shot a lot of hoops in the paved drive way. |

Good BC (Before Cell) story. Very early Spring and I'm on the roof sealing some shingle flaps back down. Gust of wind comes along and blows my aluminum ladder down. I'm up basically 3 stories. After about 3 hrs a local I know happens by and almost passes me by (cold enough his windows are up) before he hears my screaming. Could have been stuck up there for days. |
