Fall Travel Capsule Wardrobe - Pearls and Pantsuits (2024)

Fall Travel Capsule Wardrobe - Pearls and Pantsuits (1)

I’m thrilled to share a few fall travel capsule wardrobe ideas with you today. I’m hopping on a jet plane bound for Italy (oh my goodness, Italy! The food, the wine, the sights, the history! EEK!) in a few days, and I’ve been furiously shopping, planning, and stressing over what to pack and wear. Because that’s how I roll. I’ve been warned what NOT to pack or wear (which is what caused me the stress) and I’ve also been advised to pack as lightly as I can. So I created a capsule wardrobe for my trip that will be perfect for ANY trip you might be taking this fall. I’ve even included accessories!

Fall Travel Capsule Wardrobe Tips

Summer travel is SO different from traveling in the fall months. Clothes are lighter, and you don’t typically have to worry about outerwear or heavier shoes or boots. The challenge for fall travel in Italy, or pretty much anywhere north of the equator is that the weather is all over the place! As a result, those cool mornings, warm afternoons, and chilly evenings make for a complicated suitcase. I have googled and pored over various Pinterest pins for travel capsule wardrobe ideas that I could translate into my own style. Here are a few tips for formulating your own travel capsule.

  • Decide what your color palette will be. I’m sticking to black, camel, and denim.
  • Add pops of color and personality with your accessories.
  • Stick to the basics, and keep the patterns to a minimum. I’m only including one patterned top in my capsule.
  • Pack a couple of pairs of comfortable shoes if you plan to do a lot of walking.

So after all of that research and shopping here is what I came up with.First up are the primary pieces that make up my capsule wardrobe.

I’ll be wearing one pair of comfy sneakers and packing the flats and Converse. I’m keeping my jewelry simple with my tried and true gold initial necklace set and my simple gold Love Knot Earrings. The bag is lightweight, has RFID blocking, and lots of hidden pockets to protect my valuables. The scarf should add a bit of personality to my outfits.

Here’s a look at how I plan to mix and match these pieces, but really the combinations are endless! I’ll be able to pop on any of the shoes, and even throw on the scarf to mix it up a bit. These outfits contain the third piece, but if the weather warms, I’ll be able to peel those off like an onion! Or throw on later when the air chills.

  • Graphic tee, denim jeans, black blazer
  • White tee, chunky cardigan, black pants
  • Black tee, utility jacket, black pants
  • Camel sweater, black slip skirt, chunky cardigan
  • Graphic tee, black slip skirt, long black cardigan
  • Floral top, denim jeans, chunky cardigan

A Few Key Pieces from My Travel Capsule Wardrobe

The Hat

I found this adorable hat on Amazon because I felt like it would be a good way to deal with messy, dirty travel hair! Of course I’ll be packing hair ties and a clip or two! I really don’t want to have to worry about my hair!

The Utility Jacket

I’ve been styling this jacket so many ways already this fall! I love the idea of pairing it with the slip skirt and any of the tees I’m taking with me.

A Few Extras

First, I’ll be wearing and packing an extra pair of compression socks for my trip. However, I’m not looking forward to wearing them! But, despite that fact, I know that they add great protection and comfort during extended periods of sitting (as on a long flight to Italy!) Next, a friend advised that I make copies of my passport and itinerary and tuck them away in case my originals get lost, which I think is a brilliant idea! In addition, I also picked up a collapsible water bottle, dual-voltage hair dryer, and outlet adapter.

That’s it! Now it’s your turn. What did I forget? Leave a comment and please let me know! I need all the help I can get.
