Friends legend Matthew Perry has passed away from an apparent drowning at his LA home. He was 54-years-old.

Matthew played the sarcastic Chandler Bing in the show, which shot him, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc to fame from 1994 to 2004.

Following the Friends reunion in 2021, Matthew went on a book tour for his memoir: Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing — where he opened up about his past drug and alcohol abuse, including a near death experience from opioid use.

The Los Angeles Police Department received a 911 call at 4.07pm local time (12.07am), with a police source saying that the call was a water rescue at the home in Pacific Palisades.

TMZ, who broke the news of the star’s death, said that Matthew passed away in a hot tub or jacuzzi. However, no official cause of death has been announced, but there was no foul play playing a role in his death.

Tributes have poured in for Matthew following his death, with Maggie Wheeler, who played Chandler’s ex-girlfriend Janice on Friends, saying that the world will miss him.

‘What a loss. The world will miss you Mathew Perry,’ Maggie wrote on Instagram. ‘The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.’

Selma Blair also paid tribute to her ‘oldest boy friend’ in Matthew, writing ‘All of us loved Matthew Perry, and I did especially. Every day. I loved him unconditionally. And he me. And I’m broken. Broken hearted. Sweet dreams Matty. Sweet dreams.’

A statement from NBC Entertainment, who produced Friends for the 10 season run, confirmed Matthew’s death, saying ‘We are incredibly saddened by the too soon passing of Matthew Perry. He brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people around the world with his pitch-perfect comedic timing and wry wit.’

Morgan Fairchild, who playedPerry’son-screen mother and erotic novel writer Nora Bing, said on Twitter: ‘I’m heartbroken about the untimely death of my ‘son’,MatthewPerry.’

The 73-year-old US actress added: “The loss of such a brilliant young actor is a shock.

‘I’m sending love and condolences to his friends and family, especially his dad, John BennettPerry, who I worked with on Flamingo Road and Falcon Crest.’
