How to get to The Edge Observation Deck NYC will depend on where you transiting from:

MTA NEW YORK SUBWAY: Hop on the No. 7 Subway, your primary link to Hudson Yards, seamlessly connecting with Times Square.

MTA BUS LINES: Embrace convenience with the M34-SBS, M12, and M11 bus lines, all stopping within a short stroll.

RAIL: Penn Station, located just two blocks east between West 31st and West 33rd Streets, is a hub for MTA Subway lines A, C, E, 1, 2, and 3. Additionally, it facilitates rail services such as Amtrak, LIRR, New Jersey Transit, and PATH. Buses like M4, M5, M6, M7, M34, and Q42 are easily accessible.

FERRY: For an alternative journey, head to the Midtown ferry terminal at West 39th Street and the West Side Highway.

CAR: Convenient parking options await drivers at 10 Hudson Yards, Abington House, and One Hudson Yards, situated along West 30th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues.

BIKE: Cyclists can enjoy a scenic ride through Hudson River Park along the West Side Highway, with the best access points from the north or south. The nearest CitiBike station is conveniently located at the northwest corner of West 34th Street and 11th Avenue. Choose the transportation mode that suits your style and embark on an exciting journey to The Edge!

UBER: Ride-sharing apps like Uber or Lyft typically are more expensive but provide door-to-door service.

Our recommendation: While traveling in New York City, we used subways to get around all our destinations around the city efficiently. It allows you to easily tap your international VISA or MasterCard for payment without a transit card. If you choose to do the hop-on-hop-off bus, you can conveniently get to The Edge by getting off at the Hudson Yards stop. From there it’s about a 10-minute walk to The Edge.

A travel tip, if you book the New York City Klook Pass, you can choose the hop-on-hop-off bus as one of the attractions to save on transportation for the day! The pass allows you to bundle attractions and The Edge Observation Deck is part of the NYC pass.

How to Access The Edge Observation Deck

You can enter through the 30 Hudson yards entrance or the shopping mall entrance across from the Vessel. Take the elevator or escalators up to the 4th floor for the main entrance.

You can’t miss the entrance, this is where you will scan your timed entry tickets. We recommend booking your tickets in advance to secure your desired date and time entry. They can be relatively strict about timed entry therefore, grace periods for being late are typically a grey area; our friend was 15 minutes late and he was just accepted in.

We recommend purchasing your ticket for the Edge Observation Deck in advance. We booked through Klook and secured our desired date and time.

How many floors is the Edge Observation Deck?

You will take the elevator up 100 floors above Manhattan. But before you step on the elevator you will walk past many infographics to learn about the Hudson Yards neighborhood.

Hudson Yardswas designated as Manhattan’s first LEED Gold neighborhood development. This was in recognition of being a green, sustainably engineered neighborhood.

The exhibits are very short most people we saw just walked right by them. Therefore you are really there for the observatory itself unlike Summit One Vanderbilt the exhibits were immersive and we found ourselves spending a lot of time in the different rooms and areas. After you walk past all the infographics you will queue up for the elevator to the Edge Observation Deck.

On the 100th floor make your way outside to the 7,500 sq ft outdoor space. The sky deck spans out to a maximum of 80 ft to the furthest point. Take pictures above Manhattan while being 1,100 ft in the air!

Angled Glass Walls

Surrounding the sky deck are angled glass walls outward where you will feel the adrenaline rush gazing at the city below. To capture this beautiful photo have one person head to the west corner of the observation deck while the other heads inside to snap the picture through floor to ceiling window.

The Eastern Point

This is probably the most popular photo spot on the entire Edge observation deck and there is typically a line for a photo. Take your postcard-worthy snapshot of yourself or with your significant other surrounded by air, glass, and sky!

The Edge Observation Deck Skyline Seats

This is where you will get a beautiful elevated view over the angled glass wall panels, and look beyond the deck! A great spot to sit and take in the beautiful sunset if you don’t want to stand along the glass panels.

Visit the Edge Observation Deck at Sunset for these iconic views of the Financial District! The amazing thing is there is no added cost to your ticket for visiting the Edge at sunset unlike Summit One Vanderbilt or the Empire State Building’s Observation decks.

Stop by the Champagne Bar

You can sip champagne or a co*cktail on the observation deck while watching the beautiful sunset over Manhattan. There is a bar located on the 100th floor inside before you reach the sky deck.

Who has the best observation deck in NYC?

It really depends! They are all so different it’s not uncommon for you to want to visit multiple observatories while you are in NYC. Getting a pass like the Klook NYC pass or the all-inclusive NYC City Pass by Go City can make it that much more affordable.

Fun fact Melissa has been to every NYC observatory multiple times because years ago she was an NYC guide. Back then she would have said the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center but for this 2024 NYC trip, she went to the Summit One Vanderbilt Observatory for the first time. Which was so unique because of the impressive mind-bending mirrors and immersive rooms along with a perfect view of the Empire State Building takes the cake!
