What to wear in Tuscany in Autumn

In Italy, fall is an in-between season so you can expect both warmer and cooler weather in October (minimum 10, max 21 average temperatures), with differences between the day and evening. Temperatures go down in November (6 min -15 max). November get be pretty wet.

SHOES TO TRAVEL IN – The best walking shoes for Italy

Choosing shoes for a trip to Italy needs to think: comfort, style, easy. It’s not really warm enough for sandals in autumn, so what do you take to a country that invented stylish footwear? We hear you.

First thing you need to remember is that you’ll be doing a lot of walking around, so you’ll need comfortable shoes that will also look good in Florence. You can never go wrong with a pair of dark ankle boots like these ones. They rock an side-zip so they are easy to take on and off, and they have an anti-fatigue foot-bed too.

Alternatively you can’t go wrong with a pair of chic walking shoes with waterproof uppers so you can brave the country paths too.

DRESSING THE PART IN TUSCANY

A light jacket would be fine until beginning of November. Think a faux leather jacket while it’s warmer, or an elegant down jacketlike this one from Orolay when things start getting colder into November. These are easy to pack and always cosy, especially if you spending time travelling from place to place. When you dress them up with a scarf they can look pretty chic too.

Of course you might prefer a waterproof trench coat. These travel well, have lots of useful pockets to store all your things in, and they are more flattering than your average outdoor rain jacket. Get one with a removable hood if you can.

Jeans, skinny jeans, or leggings are best for during the day. If it’s sunny it can get quite hot during the day so you might end up in a t-shirt at certain points.

Woolen Layer. In the evening it can get cooler, so you’ll need a light jumper, or even better a simple stylish cardigan.Basically smart layering is the key to success here.

ACCESSORIES – WHAT TO BRING

Scarf– A wide scarf is an ideal thing to pack for Tuscany in Autumn. A pashmina or shawl can cover your shoulders and makes a perfect accessory if you’re eating alfresco in the evening. Useful on the plane too, easy to carry and stylish.

Hat –In the early days of autumn there’ll be plenty of sun about and a hat is indispensable. If you a cap person, great. If you want something that’s a bit more in tune with La Dolce Vita, how about a Fedora? This one can roll up so it’s easy to carry. Or if you want something with a wider brim, try one of these

Umbrella – Truth is it can rain in Autumn in Tuscany, and it’s best to be prepared. An umbrella is essential. You need something compact and windproof, that won’t get blown out at the first gust of wind.

Bag – Summer is a time for tote bags, but in Autumn you want a bag with a bit more protection. Ideally something that’s got separate pockets for all your important documents and something that can hold a tablet a scarf, travel guide, umbrella and bottle of water.

Sunglasses – Since buying fake designer sunglasses from hawkers could land you with a fine (if you’re caught), and because shades take up so little space in your bag, you might as well bring your own. Check out this great selection of sunglasses.

Travel Wallets – Last but not least, remember to pack a travel wallet to keep all your documents and cash safe while you are on the move.
