World Champions USA beat Ireland 2-0 in Texas as Vera Pauw's side showed plenty of fight in their defeat.
Ireland came out of the blocks fast and had a number of chances as they put the hosts under serious pressure.
And from that point, it became an entertaining affair as the USA taking the game to the visitors.
Sophia Smith was the star of the show, a vital cog in the USA attack but it was Emily Fox who scored a long range goal near the end of the first half to give USA the lead.
Ireland did not let up however and Katie McCabe continued to try pick out Denise O'Sullivan on her 100th cap but could not break the US defence.
And the World Champions continued to pile on the pressure and were awarded a penalty which was converted by Lindsey Horan to end the contest.

Overall a good performance from Ireland.
A long-range effort in the first half saw Ireland trail 1-0 at the break.
They had plenty of chances in the second half but the USA showed their class with Sophia Smith, in particular, standing out.
A penalty looked quite soft and Brosnan nearly saved but the sides will meet again on Tuesday

Hello and welcome to live coverage as Ireland take on the USA this evening in an international friendly.
Vera Pauw is not a stranger to challenging her side and it gets no tougher that defending World Cup champions USA.
Today's game takes place at Austin Texas at 7.30 pm and the sides will meet again on Tuesday night in St Louis.
